The work of the Business and Property Courts - what has changed and what will change
Mr Justice Michael Green, Mr Justice David Foxton and Nikki Edwards, President of the LSLA (Chair)
The Business and Property Courts have shown a determination to innovate in recent years – from new pilot schemes on disclosure and witness statements, to the increasing use of virtual hearings following Covid. Two distinguished judges will lead a panel discussion (to be chaired by LSLA President Nikki Edwards) on what the future may hold for the English Courts. Just as important as hearing from the judiciary is the judiciary hearing from users of the Courts. Please join us for what promises to be a lively and interactive session.
Wednesday 29 January at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP
Sanctions - practical and tactical considerations in High Court litigation
Maya Lester KC of Brick Court Chambers
The increased use of financial sanctions brings with it an imperative for High Court litigators, not only to understand these regimes on their own terms, but also how these affect their clients in live proceedings. One of the pre-eminent practitioners in this area will give her views on how sanctions interact with litigation strategy, including practical tips and how to avoid pitfalls.
Wednesday 5 Feb 2025, at Hogan Lovells International LLP
Witness Preparation: a comparative approach and practical tips
Jason Galbraith-Marten KC of Assurety, together with 3-4 practitioners who will share their experiences

Settling claims in fraud, dishonesty and conspiracy
Paul Sinclair KC and Laurie Brock of Fountain Court and Orlando Gledhill KC and Eleanor Campbell of One Essex Court
How do you settle with someone who has accused you of fraud? How do you settle with someone you think is a fraudster? Are such cases settleable at all? These are questions with which many LSLA members have had to grapple. This talk will offer insights from some of those involved in the most important relevant cases of recent years.
Attendance is not limited to LSLA members. Anyone can apply for tickets.
The cost is £90 for all four events (non-members £110).
Alternatively you can book each event individually via our events page.
Our events usually sell out, so please apply early.
The LSLA lectures will start at 6 p.m. All events will last approximately one hour, to include a period for questions at the end, and will be followed by drinks.
