2022-3 Autumn/Winter Lectures: Claims against Big Tech
Wednesday 8 February 2022, at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP
“Claims agaist Big Tech”
Giles Wheeler KC, Niamh Cleary and Jacob Turner of Fountain Court
As Big Tech comes to occupy the commanding heights of the modern economy, we are moving into a new world of high-profile disputes. Our speakers will offer a tour d’horizon of claims against big tech.
- The Drivers v Uber case (in which Jacob acted), the first Court challenge under the GDPR’s provisions on AI.
- The claim being brought against Meta by a group of Rohingya people.
- The ICO’s new focus on algorithmic decision-making and what this means for private claimants.
- Class actions and representative actions against big tech.
This lecture will begin at 6pm, will last approximately 1 hour and will be followed by an opportunity for drinks and networking. Materials and, if practicable, a video recording will appear on the LSLA website after the event.
